What To Do When Your Life Seems To Be In a Standstill

One of the things that came to mind, which I experienced myself, is being in a season when it feels like your life is "buffering".

You know when your phone or computer loses its connection and you try to open something, but only get this

which lets you know things are not connecting or it’s going to take some time before it actually connects.  As you wait for things to get sorted out you become frustrated, annoyed and wonder what went wrong to cause you to lose your connection.

This can happen in our own lives as well.  We're putting things in motion, things seem to be moving along and then something happens which brings us to a point where we are not moving ahead like we once were.  We try various things to help give our lives, career, relationships a jumpstart hoping this temporary delay will hurry up, but it only continues to buffer.

What do you do when it feels like your life is at a standstill?  What do you do when trying to fix it only turns out to be a short-term solution and you’re right back where you started?  When your life, marriage, relationships, career or business is buffering there is a reason.

Here are a few below:

  • There’s a lesson to learn from the current place you’re in.
  • There’s a benefit in being still. Your life is not always meant to be in constant motion. Just like each season has their own specific purpose, i.e. Spring = blooming and growth, Fall = change, or plants begin to die, our lives also have seasons it needs to go through.
  • You’re actually being protected from something ahead, so this “buffering” state causes you not to move just yet
  • You need to grow in some area, which is preparing you for your next stage in life.
  • “Maybe God is tryna tell you something” from "The Color Purple" 😊

Here’s how you can handle the “buffering" season:
Instead of fighting against this season, take time to be still in it.  Easier said than done, right?
But the more you fight it, the more you’ll return to the same exact spot (or further behind) without learning the lesson. When you’re constantly moving, going or feel the need to do something, then you will not have time to reflect.

Take time to reflect and ask yourself:

  • What lessons am I being offered in this season?
  • What do I need right now?
  • What changes do I need to make during this season?
  • In what ways can I show myself compassion during this time?

The answers around next steps are available to you when you take time to reflect and gain clarity before moving forward.

Maybe this is the season to:
develop a fresh plan,
get some rest,
go in a new direction,
cut off some old habits that can’t go to the next phase,
grow,
regroup,
reconnect,
let things unfold naturally instead of trying to force it to happen.

I look forward to hearing how you have or will handle your season of “buffering”.
